There is a fortress on summit of Montjuic (means Mount of the jews), that presents a 360 deg view of the city below. I take the metro from Glories (Line 1 – red), change to L3 to Paral-lel (Line 3 – green). There is a funicular from here which will take you to Montjuic – Teleferic de Montjuic. Right outside the funicuIar station, there is bus stop for # 150 (you can take this bus directly from Placa Espanya as well) which then takes me directly in front of the castle. Instead of this bus I could have also walked 15 min uphill, but I decide to walk during my descent instead. I explore the castle, its garden, then walk along the periphery with a beautiful view of the sea. Huge cannons used during the war era are on display just outside the castle.
I begin my downhill descent and explore the town and soak in the sun at the beautiful parks on my way back. Next on my list today is the Sagrada Familia Basilica, so, I get down at the metro station for it. Just a few minutes outside the metro is the Basilica – so huge. All the other buildings around this seemed tiny. I hadn’t pre-booked tickets for the visit to the sagrada and none were available at present. Hence, couldn’t go inside. So, if you are really keen on visiting, pre-book online several days earlier to your visit date. After roaming around this monument and taking pictures, I stop by at the traveler’s desk asking for the way to home, and she marks the route on Avenida Diagonal towards my hotel. There are so many small shops in around the basilica, the idea OF window shopping made me decide to go home on my feet and exploring the city at the same time.I walk past several shops, a Theatre Nacional de Catalunya, Placa de les Glories Catalanes and reach hotel around 2 pm for my lunch.

Post lunch I relax for another hour and then leave for shopping at the Las Ramblas street. There are so many shops and malls here, familiar brands as well as unfamiliar ones. And a lot of roadside vendors, selling beautiful purses, sun glasses etc. Reminds me of Colaba, Mumbai – branded hi-end shopping as well as road side shopping all existing side by side. A very good shopping experience – HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
