We all love our nursery rhymes, don’t we? “Nursery rhymes”, this word originated in Britain, they are traditional poems or songs sung for children. Each country has its own set of songs traditionally sung for the entertainment of children.
“There was an old woman who lived in a shoe” was a popular English nursery rhyme with an unknown origin. People have made several attempts to match the old woman with historical female figures. One may rely on the internet gurus to give detailed information. So, go ahead and surf the net.
Nobody can for sure determine the age or origin of these lines. But you can see an example of its implementation in the “Hanging Gardens” at Malabar Hill, Mumbai, India. Check out the picture below. It is one of a kind in the entire world.
The original poem goes like this:
“There was an old woman who lived in a shoe.
She had so many children, she didn’t know what to do.
She gave them some broth without any bread;
Then whipped them all soundly and put them to bed.
Another version says this:
There was an old woman who lived in a shoe.
She had so many children, she didn’t know what to do.
She gave them some broth with plenty of bread;
She kissed them all fondly and send them to bed.
